If ever there was a cat who not only has survived adversity but also has not let it sully her amazing personality, it's sweet Marshmallow. When barely out of kittenhood (born approximately 1/2023), Marshmallow was found in a backyard being pursued by a gang of street-smart feral cats. She overcame that traumatic experience to blossom into the playful, loving cat that she is. And her survival story is all the more amazing because, shortly after arriving at KittyKind, a variety of mysterious symptoms, many vet visits, and finally an assessment by neurologists at Animal Medical Center let to the discovery that she had a congenital portosystemic liver shunt. Some cats are excellent candidates for a life-saving surgery, and AMC determined that Marshmallow, an otherwise healthy, young cat, was one such lucky candidate. The surgery was complex and expensive, but we couldn't give up on this wonderful cat. And Marshmallow herself wasn’t about to give up on anything! The surgery worked wonders and Marshmallow now has a new lease on life! She is an energetic and exuberant cat, who chases her toys…or runs around in pure joy, a case study in the zoomies! When not in super-active mode, she’ll sit next to you, enjoy a petting session, and can be mellow and calm. She's fearless and curious, qualities that make her self-confident and social with people. She'll follow her person from room to room, enjoy sitting by their side or sleeping on their bed, yet is not too clingy. You can pick her up without a fuss and, as a special treat, drape her over your shoulder for a little ride! And, although she's not prone to 'meow,' she has an adorable little chirp when she wishes to voice her opinion! This pretty young girl might be best as a single cat—in a home with lots of attention doted on her—as she is 'hit or miss' with other cats, seeming to be intimidated by bigger, older cats. Marshmallow is finishing a course of meds in August — she loves pill pockets and takes her pill like a champ — and then deserves credit, perhaps an award, for having conquered so many obstacles and come out on top … an amazing cat ready for her forever home! Marshmallow is negative for FIV and FeLV, spayed, and up-to-date on her vaccinations. To adopt Marshmallow, email [email protected].
